Cary Grant was one of the major players Great Britain has been famous for its high performance and yet comical.
Archibald Alexander Leach (January 18, 1904 Ã 29 November 1986), better known by his screen name Cary Grant, was an English actor. With its emphasis distinctive Mid-Atlantic, was perhaps the best example Advanced elegant man leading not only beautiful, but also witty and charming. He was named the second Greatest Male Star of all time by the American Film Institute.
Archie Leach was born in Horfield, Bristol, England. An only child (before his birth, his parents had another son who died young), Leach had a confused and unhappy childhood. Her mother, Elsie, was placed in a psychiatric facility when he was nine. His father (who later had a relationship with another woman, never had a son) told the truth, and only learned in 1935 that was still living in an institution.
That left Leach to the uncertainty in their relations with women and a secret about his life inside. These forms of insecurity, by his own admission, took him to the will of the attention and applause and the creation of a new character to draw. After been expelled Fairfield Grammar School in Bristol in 1918 (for research on girls' bathroom), he joined the Bob Pender stage troupe. Grant traveled with the U.S. company in 1920 for a tour of two years, when the company returned to England, Grant decided to stay in the U.S.
Over time, has created a unique style and personality that the mixed working and upper class accents, while holding, among other things, a street vendor.
After a successful Broadway comedies, he came to Hollywood in 1931 when he acquired the name of Cary Grant.
Grant starred some famous screwball comedies, including The Awful Truth with Irene Dunne (screen key film character creation grant), Katharine Hepburn, Bringing Up Baby, His Girl Friday with Rosalind Russell and Arsenic and Old Lace with Priscilla Lane. These performances solidified his appeal, and the Philadelphia Story, with Hepburn and James Stewart, introduced his screen role as known: the charming man if sometimes unreliable, formerly married to an intelligent and tenacious woman first divorced, she realized he was – warts and all – Irresistible.
Grant was one of the main attractions Hollywood box office for decades. He was a versatile actor, who want nothing physical comedy in movies like Gunga Din with the skills that learned on stage. Howard Hawks said that Grant was "so far the best. There is no one comparable to him. "
Grant was a favorite actor of Alfred Hitchcock's famous for disliking actors, who said that Grant was "the only actor I've ever loved all my life. "Grant appeared in Hitchcock's classic suspicion, Notorious, To Catch a Thief and North by Northwest.
In the mid- 1950, Grant formed his own production company, Grantley Productions, and produced a number of films distributed by Universal, such as Operation Petticoat, indiscreet, A Touch of Mink (co-starring Doris Day), and Father Goose.
Although Grant was nominated for two Oscars in 1940, was denied an Oscar Throughout his active career and was considered a maverick by virtue of the fact that he was the first actor to "go" independent, effective to draw attention to the old studio system, which means total control over what an actor could or could not do. In this way, Grant been able to control every aspect of his career. The cost has not been a golden statuette for his active career.
Grant finally received the honors she has long deserved in 1970 with a special Oscar for his career. In 1981, he received the Kennedy Center Honors.
