Horror book that does NOT include vampires or sci-fi?
Looking for a super scary horror book.
Love to read, however every book I read has been pretty slow. For example I just read Undone by Karen Slaughter. It just wasn’t juicy enough for me. It didn’t scare me. It involved more of the detective side of it. I’m looking for books that involve more of the victim’s side with suspense/thriller. I’m looking for a book to scare the daylights out of me! I haven’t had any luck with Dean Koontz, James Patterson, Steven King. I’m NOT interested in teen novels, vampires, sci-fi or ghosts.
Recently I’ve read:
Honeymoon, James Patterson-boring.
Undone-Karen Slaughter-boring
The Neighbor-Lisa Gardner-boring.
The last child-John Hart-this one was good, kind of…a bit slow.

Here are some good horror books that don’t involve any sad, sad vampires or space alien plague induced zombies
Heart Shaped Box by Joe Hill – an aging rock star who likes to collect macabre items buys a dead man’s suit – then strange things start happening – turns out that man’s ghost is still lingering and he’s not happy – pure chills; I loved this one
Carrie by Stephen King – this is the book that put King on the map – this serves as a reminder to never anger the girl with the psychic powers …
The Exorcist by William Peter Blatty – classic tale of demon possession
Shadowlands by Peter Straub – two friends at an upstate boarding school start dabbling in magic & illusions, thinking it;s all fun and games – but it really isn’t as dark forces begin to seep into our world due to their “fun.”
