Medieval Wedding History

anyone had a medieval wedding?
this is second time for both of us, none of us are religious. I couldnt get married in a hotel, its sooooo NOTHING. We have decided on an ancient castle, as my partner is the local historian and also a qualified archaeologist. We met through our love of history. So we are having a medieval banquet, with jousting and fire-eating, Has anyone attended one of these weddings before. Im just wondering if guests would rather usual wedding attire or medieval. Dont want anyone to feel uncomfortable
Ours will be traditional Welsh medieval, serving cawl from wooden bowl with wooden spoon, lamb and baked potato eaten with fingers, lemon and water finger bowl for washing fingers. washed down with mead (red wind and honey)
I attended one. The invite said “Period attire optional”, and looked like a scroll. Anyone not dressed in medieval attire was just dressed in what people would normally wear to a wedding…nice sort of formal clothing. It was mostly the girls who dressed up. The wedding was in November, which the couple did so that anyone who didn’t have elaborate custom outfits like the bridal party but still wanted to dress up could get a costume meant for Halloween, but marked down. Lots of people also rented costumes. I would recommend giving guests the addresses of local costume rental places so they know they don’t need to buy anything if they want to dress up.
