Forever hold their peace?
You know the part at weddings where they ask if anyone is against it, and they should speak or forever hold their peace? Well, what happens when someone stands up and says they are against it? Do they have to stop and talk to them? Or does it maybe just go on? What happens? I’ve always wondered. Thanks.
If they say they are against it, it is up to the bride and/or groom on whether to stop the wedding or not.
For example, if the one who objects is a former lover who just doesn’t want to let go of the bride or groom, the bride or groom may ask that he be removed.
On the other hand, if it is someone who has information like either the bride or groom cheated or has a venereal disease or can’t have children or something like that (something that may change the mind of the bride or groom if they knew the truth), then the bride or groom can stop the wedding right then. That, or choose to accept the person they are marrying anyway, and move on with the wedding.
The whole point of asking that is just to make sure that anyone who may have information that either the bride or groom doesn’t know, but could change their mind if they did know, can get that information to the ones who need to know.
